“My wonderful friend spent the last four months of her life in your care. She said being among you made her feel pampered and loved . She so appreciated the friendship of the nursing staff and volunteers.”
Volunteer
The support that the Society provides would not be possible without the dedication and compassion of its wonderful volunteers. The palliative care volunteer is skilled in working with people, friendly, open and a good listener. They are non-judgmental and approach others with true affection and respect. Hospice volunteers are vital to the hospice experience. People interested in volunteering with the Hospice Palliative Care Society of Cape Breton County can do so in a variety of ways.
Volunteers are able to provide support service to families by
- running errands;
- staying with a patient while the caregiver does errands;
- providing respite for the family;
- transporting a patient to appointments;
- providing companionship; and
- being a listening ear.
Volunteers are selected through an interview process. Upon acceptance, the volunteer is required to attend a comprehensive training program, equipping them with the skills needed to work with palliative care patients and their families.
To become a volunteer please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at (902) 567-8160 or complete and submit this form.
